Using PhotoImpact's Built-In Calendar Date Grids

This tutorial will show you how to take advantage of the built in calendar date grids available to you in PhotoImpact, and how to apply them to your calendar wallpapers.

Personalized calendars can easily be created in PhotoImpact for printing or sharing with others. There is a tutorial on Creating Personalized Calendars available at the PhotoImpact website. The calendars they produce however are designed and sized to print (890x692), not to be applied to wallpaper for use on your desktop. This tutorial will show you how you can use the date grids this utility produces and apply them to your own wallpaper.

Here are some examples of the calendar date grids that PhotoImpact makes available. It provides both horizonal and vertical layouts.

Let's being by creating a new 1024x768 image with a white background. Select Share/Calendar from the File menu. Select the layout you want and copy it to the clipboard.

Now paste your clipboard into the blank image you created, and merge it with the background with the keyboard shortcut cntl-shft-m. Create a selection of the portion of the calendar you want to add to your wallpaper and copy it with cntl-c.

Open an image you want to use for your calendar wallpaper (I'm using a scan of Gail Morris' painting of St. Anthony's Woods) and paste your calender date grid on to it. You can leave the white date grid background...

...or you can remove it by right-clicking on the date grid and selecting Properties. Set the Merge type to 'If Darker'. Click on the image below to see it at full size. Since this is a copyrighted image and my scan is only legal for private use, I've added a watermark.
